2020 Gear List for Videographers / Photographers

Hello Photographers & Videographers!

Welcome to the 2020 gear list for amazing wedding videos.

More wedding couples are requesting photo and video packages. They know that the package with the best value offers both photo and video.

Whether you are a photographer getting into video or a new videographer, here is the equipment you need to start producing amazing videos.

Note: I believe in order to produce the best work it is important to buy the best gear.

Cameras:

  • Nikon D850 - Best DSLR for photography and videography. This camera has almost zero buffer time so it is possible to produce photos and video.

  • Canon EOS R - One of my favorite cameras for videography. Features low light capabilities and slow motion. Best used with the DJI Ronin S.

Lenses:

Nikon D850

  • Tamron SP 85mm F/1.8 Di VC USD (My favorite prime lens)

  • Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8E FL ED VR Lens (Best zoom lens, great for ceremonies, cost more than $2000 for the lens alone)

Canon EOS R

  • Canon RF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS USM Lens (Extremely sharp lens, great for landscapes, works well with the Ronin S)

Gimbals:

  • DJI Ronin S - Reliable piece of gear but requires knowledge and practice. This gimbal has 12 hours of battery life and will help make your footage smooth and movie quality. Fits in a bag for easy travel.

  • Ronin SC - for smaller cameras.

  • Glidecam HD-2000 - Recommend gear for when I can’t bring the Ronin S or charge the batteries.

Tripods/Monopods:

  • Manfrotto gear is lightweight and durable.

Flash:

  • Godox V1 and

  • XPro controller

  • Flash modifiers are a must.

Audio Equipment:

Having good audio equipment is important. Make sure to invest in ALL of the gear in this section. You will need it.

  • Zoom H5 or H4n (great for connecting to the DJ sound board)

  • Zoom H1 (Great for connecting to soundboards or to clip onto a groom/officiant)

  • Tascam DR-10 (Compact audio recorder to clip onto the groom or officiant)

  • The following are the types of cable connections you will need for soundboards:

  • RCA Cable (Most common at weddings)

  • 1/4-inch to 1/4” cable

  • 3.5mm cable

  • 1/4” adapter to 3.5mm

  • XLR cable

  • a good pair of headphones (to check audio)

Camera Straps:

  • Peak Design has the best camera straps I have ever used. They are convenient and comfortable. I recommend the:

  • Peak Design Leash, great for midsized cameras

  • Peak Design Slide, great for bigger cameras

Software:

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 or CC

  • Adobe Photoshop (Great for graphic design and photo editing)

  • Adobe Lightroom (Great for culling, fast color correction and editing images)

Accessories:

  • Sandisk SD cards

  • Sony XQD cards

  • Sony XQD/SD Card Reader

  • Lens Hoods

  • Zeiss Cleaning Solution and Supplies

  • Reflectors
